Over the past year, the Anne Arundel County Food Bank (AACFB) assisted many agencies. Some of the highlights are as follows:
- Light House Shelter – We donated furniture to this shelter for the homeless to use. We also supply food they receive as a member of the AACFB.
- Chrysalis House – Opened an Infirmary to tend after client’s needs in their transitional housing and treatment center. We donated the basic medical equipment needed to evaluate patients. This includes an examining table, office furniture, a standing scale, wall dividers and more.
- Hope House – This is a treatment center for men and women. We donated a washer and dryer for the clients use.
- Fire Victims – We assist fire victims throughout Anne Arundel County including a tenant in Shady Side and Newtown, Harbor House and Robin Wood public housing. Red Cross, the Department of Social Services, and other service-oriented agencies refer victims to us.
- Winter Relief – During the winter months, churches open their doors to house and feed the homeless. This past year approximately 1,455 homeless were housed six nights and served over 26,000 meals. The AACFB supplies food, toiletries, blankets, clothes and other items requested to serve their needs.
- Holidays – We assist local pantries, the Department of Social Services and other service-oriented agencies with food for holiday baskets and presents for children and their families. These services are supported by AACFB food drives, and organizations that donate to support this cause.
- Happy Helpers for the Homeless – This is a volunteer program that prepares and distributes lunches, clothes, school supplies and other necessities to the homeless and the less fortunate in Annapolis and Baltimore. Last year approximately 25,000 bagged meals were distributed to the homeless.
- Back to School – Students are assisted with school supplies, book bags, clothes and other items upon request. These services are supported by various back to school drives and benefit children/students who are less fortunate.
